Best Mates – standing beside our veterans
At Best Mates, we believe that no veteran should feel alone. The transition from military to civilian life can be challenging, and we are committed to creating a strong, supportive community that uplifts, empowers, and connects those who have served in the armed forces.

Building a supportive social network for veterans
Camaraderie doesn’t always end with service, it’s something many veterans carry for life but often, it can be lost. That’s why we’re dedicated to reducing isolation and helping to make meaningful community connections.
Our Best Mates ‘Walk & Talk’ initiative provides a relaxed, welcoming environment where veterans can come together, share experiences, and build friendships. Through these ‘Walk and Talks’, we aim to create a sense of belonging in the community for veterans and their families.
Additionally, we are working to increase access to counselling sessions and peer support programmes, ensuring that every veteran and their families have a network of care, understanding and community when they need it most.

Providing vocational training and employment support
The skills and discipline developed during military service are invaluable. Our goal is to help veterans translate those strengths into meaningful civilian careers.
Through specialised vocational training, career coaching and direct employment support, we equip veterans with the tools needed to succeed. By partnering with local businesses and industries, we are creating employment pathways that recognise and utilise their unique talents, ensuring long-term job security and fulfilment.
Supporting mental health and well-being
The transition from military to civilian life can bring emotional and psychological challenges. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression and other mental health struggles are real but so is the support we offer.
Our initiative provides:
- Professional counselling to address personal and family challenges
- Peer-led support groups where veterans can speak openly with those who understand them
- Wellness programmes designed to promote physical and mental well-being
By taking a proactive approach, we strive to ensure that every veteran has the resources they need to lead a fulfilling, healthy life.
